YMCA DownsLink Group is a formation of local YMCAs across Sussex and Surrey. They are a charity working to transform the lives of vulnerable young people across Sussex and Surrey. They work to prevent youth homelessness and provide a home to 763 young people every night. They reach a further 10,000 young people and their families through other key services, such as counselling, support and advice, mediation and youth work, so that all young people can belong, contribute and thrive.

The Team:

The Wellbeing Service is a collaboration between YMCA DownsLink Group, Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust and Southdown. As part of the Children & Young People’s (CYP) Wellbeing Service, YMCA DownsLink Group offer a range of short-term interventions tailored to young people’s presenting needs and age. These include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling, digital counselling, low intensity psychological interventions, group treatments, drama and play therapies, social prescribing and family therapy.

The Role:

The Wellbeing Counsellor – Ethnicities Specialist role will provide assessments and counselling for children and young people from mixed or black and minority ethnic (BAME) groups aged 8-24 years. The role will include building partnerships with other BAME services and an advisory role to CYP service managers and clinical leads regarding service user participation, co-production and staff recruitment, advising on the particular needs of minority ethnic groups in therapeutic services.

Who You Are:

You will be a qualified counsellor; a Graduate or Post Graduate Counselling Diploma with 2+ years experience post qualification and BACP Registered/Accredited or registered with another recognised professional body (e.g. UKCP, HCPC, BAAT, BAMT, BADth). You are a professional from BAME background or mixed ethnicity; with experience of delivering specialist counselling, mental health assessments, supporting mixed & BAME children and young people who have mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

In addition, you will be flexible being able to work online, or any of the Wellbeing or YMCA bases in Brighton & Hove and a willingness to work either Saturday or one evening a week.
