Established 30 years ago, Turning Tides is a multifunctional, complex needs homelessness charity. Their mission is to end local homelessness. They have gone from supporting a handful of people in the coastal town of Worthing to providing a range of services to over 1,700 people in Worthing, Adur, Littlehampton, Horsham and Mid Sussex. They have over 10,000 supporters, 300 volunteers and 160 staff members to date.

BACKGROUND

They have been successful in receiving funding from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities as part of the Rough Sleeper Initiative (RSI), to set up and deliver a program of skills workshops for clients. To enable clients who are either rough sleeping, placed in emergency accommodation or supported accommodation, to gain basic skills and knowledge to support independent living.

THE ROLE

  • Based across Horsham and Mid Sussex, skills workshops will be delivered on several days throughout the week on a rolling 12-week course.
  • You will be gathering content and linking in with other agencies to ensure the workshops are current, informative, and relevant.
  • You will also be supporting individuals to progress further into their chosen career paths providing support and guidance working closely with the DWP.

ABOUT YOU

They are looking for an enthusiastic, driven individual who is passionate about working with people with multiple disadvantages to help identify and meet their personal, social, learning and employability needs and provide specific advice, training and support in line with a tailored action plan.

  • You will be responsible for setting up skills workshops and connecting with employers and key partners to seek out ways to best meet the needs of supporting the clients on their journey into to work, education and to independence.
  • Building an up-to-date working knowledge of the local area, training opportunities and relevant support agencies is essential for success in the role.
  • You will get to know the local employers in your community, understanding what they are looking for in an employee and build a close working relationship with them to ensure a transparency and trust with your clients.
