Age UK is the UK’s leading charity enabling older people over 50 to Love Later Life. Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove (AUKWSBH), is an independent local charity working in the community to help older people, their families and their carers. They provide an array of services and activities that meet the needs and interests of the communities they support, providing opportunities for people to get out, have fun, socialise and build friendships. Their vision is to inspire and enable people in West Sussex, Brighton & Hove to Love Later Life. It really is a great place to work if you really want to make a difference in people’s lives.

AUKWSBH want older people to Love Later Life, but with loneliness affecting one third of older people, they know this isn’t always possible.

  • The Development Manager is an incredibly rewarding role, where you will be developing services that connects older people back to their local community and reduce loneliness.
  • They are looking for someone that truly understands the barriers that create social isolation, such as poverty, bereavement, transport or disability, someone who has the passion to help find solutions to the barriers impacting our elderly community.
  • With winter approaching, they urgently need a confident and enthusiastic self-starter who understands older people, can develop new community projects and work brilliantly with other partners or local leaders.
  • You will need to be great with people, driven and focused in what they need to achieve.
  • You’ll also need to be an excellent communicator, strong-writer and great networker.
  • This post requires you to have a full driving licence and use of a car as it’s a district-wide role, some of which is rural.
  • Should you be successful, you will be subject to a variety of checks, including DBS and references.

The role is 18 hours a week, with flexibility over working days/pattern. Core hours are Monday to Friday 9 – 5 but workings days can be discussed at interview. Hybrid working is offered with a mixture of office, out in the community and homeworking.

AUKWSBH really is a great place to work and they value their people.  That’s why the staff benefits include:

  • Flexible Working Options
  • Ongoing professional training and development
  • 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) pro-rata for part time staff
  • Health Cash Plan

As an employer, they want to see the diversity of our communities reflected in the workforce. They believe that employing a rich mix of people from a range of different backgrounds with fresh ideas and different perspectives is key to enabling them to continually improve our services to the diverse communities they serve. They welcome and encourage applications from all members of the community.

AUKWSBH is a Disability Confident Committed employer and they encourage applications from people with disabilities. Any candidate with a disability will not be excluded unless the candidate is unable to perform a duty intrinsic to the role, having considered reasonable adjustments. They are committed to ensuring that the recruitment process is as inclusive as possible for everyone.
