Diabetes Group Crawley (DGC)

Do you have Diabetes or are you afraid of it?

DGC have been through this fear and found a way to get our blood sugar levels under better control and lose a lot of weight ! Some of them have been able to reduce or stop certain medications, improve their eyesight, get their blood pressure down, reduce the risks of neuropathy etc.

DGC are a group of diabetic patients in Crawley, who want to share their experience and successes with you – people like them!

DGC listen to each other and want to help others struggling with what they have struggled with, to find real and practical solutions, that work !

Who are DGC?

Diabetes Group Crawley (DGC) was set up by volunteers in July 2023 and since then has been arranging meetings as a patient-led informal social group, to support and encourage people with diabetes, or pre-diabetes, and their carers in the Crawley area. Although not offering medical advice, the general aim has been to share valuable personal, practical experience and knowledge to help members improve their health and understanding  about diabetes, diet and lifestyle changes.

During 2025 Diabetes Group Crawley has held 10 in-person and 12 Zoom meetings, with 4 visiting professional speakers, plus attended 4 community events. We continue our close relationship with a similar group in Bognor Regis. Group members from the Crawley area have shared practical, real experiences of living with diabetes, and the medications prescribed as treatment, and have encouraged improved health through their mutual support and gaining better personal knowledge of living with this usually invisible but potentially serious illness.

We are delighted that some members have been able to achieve near-remission from their Type 2 Diabetes. It isn’t easy but demonstrates that it can be done!

For 2026 Diabetes Group Crawley has recently changed its status from an informal social group to inaugurate a more formally-constituted “Unincorporated Social Group”.  This will have no direct effect on current members or the aims of the Group.

The Group’s new Management Committee  plan to raise the Group’s visibility, through improved multi-media activity and attending more community events, to reach more people with diabetes, and to attract more volunteers and visiting speakers. Working in cooperation with other local health support organisations will enhance opportunities for our members to benefit from shared experiences, support and more information, to better help manage their diabetes, for the huge benefit of achieving better health and perhaps remission from their diabetes.
