Phoenix Choir bring ‘Sounds of Italy’ to Crawley

 

Phoenix Choir of Crawley are going continental for their concert ‘Sounds of Italy’on –

Venue: Main Hall at Hazelwick School, Three Bridges, Crawley RH10 1SX.

 

The Choir will be joined by a professional orchestra and two fabulous professional soloists, all under the baton of Phoenix Choir’s Music Director, George Salmon.  The concert will include ‘Messa di Gloria’ by Puccini, a setting of the mass in a style heavily influenced by Verdi.  There will also be well-known orchestral, choral and solo pieces from the operas of Verdi, Mascagni, Puccini and Donizetti, including The Anvil Chorus, The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves and the beautiful Intermezzo from ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’ by Mascagni.

Tenor soloist Ben Thapa started his career as one quarter of the classical crossover quartet G4, runners up on the first series of the X Factor in 2004, and now has a busy career on opera and concert stages across the UK and abroad.  Baritone Thomas Humphreys has been praised for his “captivating” and “powerful” voice on the opera stage.
