Chagossian Community Day

We are thrilled at the success of the Chagossian event last saturday at The Bewbush Centre. This was to celebrate the achievements of Chagossian-led and Chagossian-serving projects in Crawley. It was to create a platform for Chagossians to engage directly with support services, ask questions, and shape future support.

The event was jointly hosted by Sussex Community Foundation and CCA. We were joined by several other organisations like Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Crawley Community Youth Service (CCYS), Ethnic Minority Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS), Crawley Family Hub and Limitless Youth Football Club. All of them gave a small presentation on what they had on offer for the Chagos community. There were also other information kiosks. Guests were treated with wonderful spread of Chagossian food and music. There was a lovely musical performance from 2 Chagossian boys showcasing their culture.

We were very pleased that The High Sheriff of West Sussex, Dr Tim Fooks, joined us and gave a very inspiring speech. All the speeches were either in or translated to Chagossian Creole for better understanding of the community. It was a very well planned event and went very well with lot of networking and exchange of information.
