Crawley Social Prescribing Supports Local Fundraiser

Crawley Social Prescribing Project funded by the West Sussex Commissioners,  hosted by the Crawley Community Action, helps people to regain quality of life, improve physical and mental wellbeing by enabling easy access to local, community based services, groups and activities.

John has been referred by his GP to access support via Crawley Social Prescribing Link Worker at the start of April 2021.

John`s life settings at the point of our initial conversation, made him feel anxious, worried and  stressed. John has lost the job over the autumn 2020 , and his flat was in a need of redecoration. The level of repairs needed, were complex, requiring thorough planning and significant financial investment, followed by support in delivering required work. John was made aware the works to be in line with requirements stated in the lease John holds with the Crawley Borough Council. John`s brother and a son supported  him with this flat, major restoring project.

By listening to John`s story, he was connected with the THAW project allowing John to participate in a “walk and talk” activity around the Tilgate Park, delivered by the Crawley Horsham Counselling Group.

John awaits to access counselling talking therapy too, and was linked with the local Wellbeing team for information and support on practices allowing to maintain healthy mind.

From the start of engagement, John presented himself as a passionate walker whom over last 3 months walked over 800 Miles! This year is also very special to John due to upcoming his 70th birthday!

Crawley Social Prescribing linked John with the St Catherine’s fundraising team to merge his own journey to a better health, with a good cause fundraising for the St Catherine’s Hospice. This resulted  in a “Just giving” website being set. Johns target is to walk 250 miles through the July 2021.

John is an inspirational individual, driven to overcome any challenges, courageous with a positive mindset. A person, who like us experienced harshness of life, especially during the covid-19 era, proactively pursues opportunities aiming at helping to improve his wellbeing, someone who offers his time and passion to a good cause to help others.

John`s openminded approach to an initial referral to Crawley Social prescribing resulted in him being currently at the heart of community, inspiring others by setting a blueprint for overcoming own weaknesses and just giving to others.
