Sussex NHS Commissioners are a friendly mental health commissioning team working on behalf of West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group, responsible for commissioning mental health services for adults in West Sussex.  The team forms part of the wider joint commissioning unit with the local partners from West Sussex County Council.  Team members’ skills and experience are appropriately matched across the work programme, giving significant flexibility, around which specific areas of work this role will be focussed on, within adult mental health.

The Role

The Sussex Mental Health Collaborative Transformation Plan is our local blueprint to support delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) requirements/deliverables for mental health to deliver the most ambitious transformation of mental health, at the local level.

They are looking for a senior commissioning manager to join the team.  You will be working alongside the other senior commissioning managers and the wider team as part of a supportive team structure and will lead the commissioning process for specific projects or services, designing and delivering programmes of transformation to deliver improvement to the health and wellbeing of our population.

You will be based in West Sussex and will primarily take responsibility for delivery in that area, but as part of the Sussex wide mental health commissioning team there will also be opportunities to work with colleagues across the county.

The Requirements

While experience of working in the NHS, community and voluntary services, adult social care, public health or local government would be beneficial, this is not essential. Most importantly you will be:

  • An experienced project manager
  • Have ability to operate at strategic level as well as an understanding of the practical applications of project work
  • Able to manage and plan programmes of work effectively
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to present complex ideas in a clear and comprehensible way
  • Have significant experience of partnership working and building and managing strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders from a number of different organisations and working across boundaries.

This post is being offered as a permanent role. Flexible working arrangements will also be considered.

They are pleased to invite prospective applicants to have an informal chat with Stina Bormann, Acting Head of Mental Health Commissioning for West Sussex and Deputy Head, Phil Shackell, so that you can ask questions and find out more information about the Mental Health team and their work.

The sessions are virtual and will take place as follows:

  • Tues 17 May – between 15.00 – 16.00
  • Thurs 19 May – between 13.00 – 14.00

If you would like to book time for a chat, please contact Zoe Pye, Manager – Mental Health Commissioning –
