Crawley Open House are hoping to get over 100 people sleeping out later this month, as a twist on their biggest annual fundraising event.
Their Fundraising and Relationships Manager, Ian Wilkins, explained:
One of our most productive fundraising events is usually a big sponsored sleep out in Crawley, which is obviously not possible just now. So we’ve adapted it, and we are encouraging people to give up the comfort of their beds for one night on Friday 20th November and sleep out in their garden, shed, garage, kitchen, office, lounge, trampoline…. they can be as creative as they like! It won’t be anything like the reality of being homeless of course, but it will maybe give a glimpse of the discomfort, cold and lack of sleep which is the nightly reality for too many people.
We hope people will consider doing it with a friend or family, bearing in mind all prevailing COVID-19 rules and guidelines of course, and get sponsored for taking part. All money raised will go towards making up the expected shortfall in our income this financial year, so that we can continue to serve, care for and accommodate those who find themselves homeless and vulnerable locally.
Anyone interested in taking part please register to receive further details here.
